Silicone rings – what’s with all the hype?

Since the original silicone wedding ring came onto the scene back in 2005, sporting a silicone ring has become popular with a wide array of people.

You’ve probably seen your fellow gym rat, outdoor enthusiast, or even your local mechanic wearing one. The truth is, there are a variety of reasons you may want to wear a silicone ring instead of a metal one.

And if you are thinking about purchasing one, you probably have a few questions.

Why wear a silicone wedding ring? Can you be allergic to silicone rings? Are silicone wedding rings safe?

We are answering all these burning questions and more in this FAQ! Keep scrolling to find the answer to your question.

1.  Can you be allergic to silicone rings?

It’s rare for people to have an allergic reaction to silicone rings. Many, including SafeRingz, are hypoallergenic — meaning it is highly unlikely to develop an allergy.

It is much more common for allergies to arise from metals found in many standard metal or gold rings.

If you experience ring rash from the ring, it is more likely due to build up of dirt, sweat, and other materials causing it. Learn how to avoid ring rash here

2.  Can you wear a silicone ring all the time?

Absolutely! Silicone rings can handle a hard day’s work.

And at the same time, SafeRingz will break if too much pressure is applied. That means if your ring gets caught on something – let’s say while mountain climbing – the ring will break so your finger doesn’t.

We do recommend taking your ring off to clean it every once and awhile. All you need to do is rinse it with hot water and rub in some mild soap. Rinse it and let it dry well before putting it on again. This helps avoid any build up under the ring.

3.  Why wear a silicone wedding ring?

There are a lot of reasons you may want to wear a silicone wedding ring.

When we made SafeRingz, our goal was to create a way for hard working people to show their commitment without risking their safety.

So, our number one reason why we wear a silicone wedding ring is safety

That is why SafeRingz will break if too much pressure is applied – so you can avoid injuries like ring avulsion. Our rings are also non-conductive – making them a great ring for electricians!

Silicone rings are also more comfortable. They stretch and are flexible – you’ll hardly notice it’s on your finger! Silicone rings are perfect for anyone suffering from arthritis or tend to have swelling in their hands and fingers.

4.  Are silicone wedding rings safe?

There is a reason why our silicone wedding rings are called SafeRingz. Safe is literally in our name.

We built our rings to keep people safe on the job, at home, or anywhere they may go. Our rings will break if caught in a sticky situation – so your fingers don’t!

Read more about how SafeRingz keeps you safe from  ring avulsion, also known as degloving, here

5.  Can you swim with a silicone ring?

Yes! In fact, a silicone ring is a much safer alternative to metal rings during summer activities, such as swimming.

Just be sure your ring fits snugly, so it doesn’t slip off during your swim. Check out our sizing chart here

And the good news is, if you do lose it while swimming, on an adventure, or on your latest vacation, it is much more affordable to replace a silicone ring than your metal one!

6.  How do silicone rings keep you safe?

SafeRingz keep you safe by making sure your finger stays in tact if your ring is ever caught on something. In other words, our rings are meant to be flexible and eventually break if needed.

Here are 5 ways a rubber wedding band keeps you safe

7.  Who should wear silicone rings?

Do you work in a dangerous profession? Or in the medical field - putting gloves on and off?

Are you a gym rat? Or maybe you have a sensitivity to gold?

There are a lot of reasons someone should wear a silicone ring.

And no matter the reason, SafeRingz will work just as hard as you do.

8.  How to find your silicone ring size?

There are two main ways to figure out your ring size.

  1. Grab one of your metal rings to measure the diameter.
  2. Use a piece of string or a measuring tape.

Find complete instructions and download our sizing guide here

Pro tip: The best time to measure your ring size is at the end of the day when your fingers are likely to be their largest.

9.  Are silicone rings non-conductive?

SafeRingz are 100% non-conductive (making them perfect for electricians).

And these rings can also stand the heat and cold. Extreme temperatures? No problem!

With these rings, you can display your commitment without worrying about any electric currents jumping to your wedding band.

10.  Do silicone rings adjust to swelling?

The beauty of silicone is that it adjusts to your finger. So, if you have swelling due to arthritis, pregnancy, or other reasons, silicone is perfect for you.

We hope we answered all your concerns and questions about rubber rings!

What is Silicone? (And why make a ring out of it?)

As a company that makes silicone wedding rings, we talk a lot about the benefits of silicone.

Like how it’s durable enough to hold up to everyday wear and tear. And at the same time, it will break under pressure to keep you and your fingers safe.

But what actually is silicone?

We thought it was time to talk about the material our rings are made of – and why we make rings out of this versatile substance in the first place.
